August 2025 – Future Leader Dog Gram Update

It’s time for another update about Future Leader Dog Gram! He’s being raised and supported by six team members at Leader Dogs for the Blind. Kasey is a part of the team and wants to share some of the exciting progress and experiences her and Gram have had together in the last month.

As Future Leader Dog Gram’s return date quickly approaches, I often find myself reflecting on the incredible year my colleagues and I have spent raising him. Your support and encouragement throughout this journey have meant so much to us.

Over the past year, Gram has grown into a confident, capable dog who has mastered essential skills like distraction work, loose leash walking, relaxation protocol, and recall. Now that it’s finally summer in Michigan, Gram has been splashing in his kiddie pool, exploring the Clinton River, and visiting a wide variety of public places and environments.

One of the highlights of Gram’s summer thus far was participating in this year’s Bark & Brew 5K, the largest 5K in the history of Rochester! Gram happily walked the course, wagging his tail the whole way. He even posed for photos with many of our wonderful supporters. It was an exciting day that truly captured the spirit of community and celebration.

It’s hard to believe how quickly this year has flown by. While my colleagues and I have worked hard teaching Gram the basics, the truth is that he’s taught me even more. His kind and playful spirit, confidence, and resilience have left a lasting mark on my heart. I am so grateful for this unforgettable experience.

I’m so excited to share that Gram has aced his entry exams! Now, it’s all up to him whether he feels called to be a guide dog. No matter what path he takes, I know he’ll continue to spread joy and light wherever he goes.

Thank you for following along on Gram’s journey and for being part of this life-changing adventure! Raising Gram has truly been an honor.

Best,
